Artifact: Professional Blog
Reflection:
Throughout my two years in the Instructional Technology Program at Kennesaw State University I was asked to keep a professional blog on my Weebly portfolio. At the conclusion of each course I was asked to blog and reflect on what I had learned for each course and how the content of the course had prepared me to be a better instructional technology coach. In addition to these end of course reflections I also blogged on a weekly basis for the ITEC 7430 – Internet Tools in the Classroom course during the spring of 2015. These posts included topics such as diversity, equitable access, and a variety of digital tools and resources I was learning about throughout the course. My contribution for this artifact was the sole creation of each post and publishing them to the blog on a regular basis.
The composition and upkeep of this professional blog demonstrates my ability to regularly evaluate and reflect on my professional practice and dispositions as a teacher and future instructional technology coach. By reflecting on a regular basis about what I had learned from each course I was able to improve and strengthen my ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences for both my students and other teachers. During the coursework of this program I was able to build my knowledge, skills, and dispositions as a technology leader in the classroom, school, and district. These opportunities to grow and my ability to reflect on them in the blog show my desire to improve and strengthen my abilities on a regular basis and not become stagnate in my learning.
The completion of this artifact provided me with an opportunity to learn the importance of blogging or journaling about your professional growth. By having something physical that I could look back on I felt like I held myself more accountable for my learning and it also provided me with an outlet to share it with others who might read and comment on my posts. If I were to improve this artifact I would go back to my original posts from the first semester and add links and visuals to make the blog easier to read and follow. These are skills that I learned about during my third semester of the program and I feel they made the quality of the blog posts higher.
The work that went into creating this blog artifact improved faculty development and student learning. As a member of the faculty I was able to grow and reflect on my learning throughout the program. This impact can be assessed through looking at my daily lessons as a teacher and how the use of technology has changed and grown as a result of my learning. Student learning has been improved as a result of this blog because I have adjusted lessons and activities to better incorporate technology to enhance their learning. I have also been able to use the blog as an example for my students. The impact on student learning can be assessed through the achievement of my students on assignments and assessments where the use of the technology I learned about was integrated.
